Washington, D.C. - Congressman Joe Donnelly was named to the Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity and the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises of the House Financial Services Committee. He was also named to the Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity.
“My appointment to the Housing and Community Opportunity Subcommittee is good news for people in the 2nd District of Indiana,” Donnelly said. “The Financial Services Committee intends to increase homeownership in America, and the chairman has already recognized the important role the manufactured housing industry can play in achieving this goal. The 2nd District is the Manufactured Housing Capital of the World and I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Committee and with Indiana’s home builders to expand homeownership.”
The Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity works on issues related to public, affordable and rural housing and oversees the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises is responsible for legislation and programs related to Wall Street, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the insurance industry, generally, except for healthcare.
“When men and women in uniform complete their service, we should honor the contributions they have made to their country,” Donnelly said. “One way we do that is by providing our veterans with opportunities for continued professional and personal growth. As a member of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, I intend to continue assisting current veterans and come up with new ways to make the transition of future veterans back into civilian life as easy and successful as possible.”
The Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity has jurisdiction over the education, training, housing and employment of veterans, including the GI bill.
