Congressman Joe Donnelly Opposes Democratic Budget

Washington, D.C. -  Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly voted against the fiscal year 2008 Budget proposed by House Democrats. The proposed budget would set a course of increased government spending that would outpace inflation.

“We have to keep spending under control,” Donnelly said. “This Congress has begun that process by adopting new pay-as-you-go rules, putting a stop to this year’s Congressional pay-raises and cutting earmarks by 50%. Although this budget is an improvement from previous years, we have to continue to cut unnecessary spending whenever possible.”

Each year, Congress considers a budget resolution that sets spending priorities as it moves forward to consider annual appropriations bills that fund the government for the coming fiscal year.

The proposed Democratic budget passed the House by a vote of 216 to 210.
