Washington, D.C. - Congressman Joe Donnelly traveled to Iraq this past weekend as part of a Congressional Delegation led by Congressman Gene Taylor (D-MS). While there, he was able to meet with many members of Company F of the 151st Infantry, an Indiana National Guard unit based in South Bend.

“At this special time of year, I wanted to personally thank our troops and tell them how much everyone back home in Indiana appreciates their courage and hard work,” Donnelly said. “It was great to spend time with our soldiers.  The 151st has a dangerous, difficult job, and they have performed it exceptionally well.  While they deeply miss their families, it is clear how focused they are on their mission in Iraq."

A highlight of the Congressman’s visit was his delivery of a banner sent by the families of the soldiers, along with Christmas and holiday cards. The cards were written by local schoolchildren to be presented to the soldiers. 

The Indiana guardsmen also presented Congressman Donnelly with an American flag intended for the people of Indiana's 2nd Congressional District. The flag was flown along "Route Irish," one of the most dangerous areas in which our Guard has been working, during one of the 151st's missions. 

“It was my honor to be with our soldiers in Iraq right before Christmas.  Their thoughts are of home and family. I also want to thank all the service men and women from our area that are serving America elsewhere around the world,” said Donnelly. 
    
During the visit, Congressman Donnelly also traveled to Baghdad and the western Al-Anbar province of Iraq.
