Washington, D.C. - On Wednesday, January 30, President Bush approved a request by Governor Daniels that was supported by the entire Indiana Congressional Delegation to declare the recent flooding in Indiana a major disaster, and thus, eligible for federal aid. Congressman Donnelly authored the letter supporting the governor’s request.
As a result, residents of certain counties hardest hit by the disaster are eligible for direct federal help, and governments and certain non-profits in all counties across the state can apply through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security for assistance to prevent or reduce the damage of future disasters.
“I applaud the president for his speedy approval of the request by Governor Daniels that the recent flooding in Indiana be declared a major disaster and eligible for federal assistance,” said Congressman Donnelly. “Hoosiers hit hardest by the January flooding deserve to receive federal aid to help them get back on their feet. This disaster declaration will enable them to receive funding.”
