Congressman Donnelly Asks President-Elect Obama to Steer More Stimulus to Communities Hit Hardest by the Recession

South Bend, IN—Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly sent a letter to President-Elect Barack Obama asking him to pay particular attention to those communities and middle-class families that have been hit especially hard by the economic downturn as he works with Congress to craft an economic stimulus package.

“While I fully support President-Elect Obama’s plans to stimulate our economy by investing in America’s infrastructure, promoting greater energy efficiency, and creating green jobs, I also want him to direct a larger share of those investments to those communities that are hurting the most,” Donnelly said. “Instead of relying solely on existing funding formulas, I urge President-Elect Obama to consider other factors like areas’ unemployment and foreclosure rates, as well as losses to their tax bases. In addition, I think it’s important that middle-class tax relief be included as part of the stimulus package.”
