Washington, D.C. -Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly announced that north central Indiana will receive nearly $1.5 million in Department of Justice Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funding as a result of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“I was pleased to hear that north central Indiana will be receiving nearly $1.5 million in Department of Justice JAG Program funding,” Donnelly said. “This funding will help to ensure that our local law enforcement agencies have the resources they need to keep our communities safe.”
The JAG program allows state and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system. Funds can be used for any type of law enforcement or court program to stop crime, as well as for technical assistance, personnel, equipment, supplies and training.
“During these difficult economic times, many communities across the country have been forced to cut back on law enforcement to make ends meet. These funds will ensure that our local and state police have resources they need to continue to protect our communities,” Donnelly said.
In addition to local law enforcement funding, the Indiana State Police received nearly $22 million in JAG program funds.
