Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly joined 182 Members of Congress in sending a letter to House leadership asking them to allow a vote on an amendment to the healthcare reform bill that would prohibit government funding of abortions. The amendment would be offered by Congressmen Bart Stupak (D-MI) and Joe Pitts (R-PA).

“As a pro-life congressman, I am committed to protecting life at all stages,” said Donnelly. “I signed onto this letter because, as we consider healthcare reform legislation, I want to see an amendment passed that would prohibit federal funds from paying for abortions. This issue is so important that members of the House deserve the chance to cast an up or down vote on it.”

In addition to this letter, Donnelly sent a letter this past July to House leadership along with Congressman Brad Ellsworth (D-IN). The congressmen requested that House leadership take into account pro-life views when considering healthcare reform and protect life at all stages by prohibiting federal funding from being used to fund abortions.
