South Bend, Ind. — Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly hosted “Home Sweet Home,” an information session for seniors covering the general topics of keeping your home and receiving care at home at the Robinson Community Learning Center in South Bend. Community experts from REAL Services, AARP, Elkhart Housing Authority, and Medicare shared information related to keeping your home in tough economic times, the pros and cons of reverse mortgages, as well as finding and paying for in-home care services that help you stay in your home.
“Seniors need to know about the many community resources available to them when it comes to keeping and thriving in their homes,” said Donnelly. “I am pleased that my office was able to bring together the many community organizations here today in order to share their expertise with those in attendance.”
“Although just about all of us want to stay in our homes as we age, 57 percent of older Hoosiers say they don’t know enough about their home and community-based long-term care options,” said June Lyle, AARP Indiana State Director. “Planning ahead and putting yourself in the driver seat is essential to maintaining independence. That way, you’re more likely to have choices about how and where you receive care.”
For more information, seniors can call REAL Services’ South Bend office at 574-284-2644 or Congressman Donnelly’s office at 574-288-2780.
